This is a really special find, very unusual antique U.S Navy Spice tin, celebrating the USS Baltimore and its white Squadron. The Baltimore was a ‘ protected cruiser’ and became the flagship of the north Atlantic squadron. The White Squadron, named on this tin were also known as the ‘The Squadron of Evolution’ was a transitional unit in the United states Navy, during the late 19th century.
Circa 1890s, this lithograph tin canister has a rounded sloped front, hinged lid and wooden knob. This particular tin canister has a Mustard label, but we do have the Mustard, Ginger and a blank tin available, just search using product code 5385.
The condition is good for it age, but as you can see from the photos there is wear to the paintwork, small dents, and scrapes. The base does have a section where it has come away from the wall of the tin. See photos. This all adds to the authenticity and charm of these unusual tins.
