“If you look at these chairs, they are mainly made of air, like sculpture. Space passes right through them” Designer Harry Bertoia
The Ionic Bird Chair, often described as a ‘study in space, form and function’ With it’s welded steel frame of polished rods, Bertoia was the master at using industrial material and elevating it beyond its normal use into a work of art. His wire chairs, designed for Knoll, are among the most recognised achievements of mid-century modern design and are still considered a radical and modern composition today. The grid design and stretched fabric, gives the chairs a sense of lightness that hides their strength, comfort and durability, with it’s hammock like shape ergonomically supporting the sitter, making it very comfortable, as well as very cool.
This large sculptural chair and footstool set are all the way from the sates, and is looking pretty good. Original vintage condition, minor wear on the fabric, just at the front, see pictures. Steel frame in great shape on both, no major scratches or dents.
